Dunne welcomes ITC Ruling to save local Bombardier jobs!

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has welcomed the ruling by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) which rejected a complaint by Boeing against Bombardier’s C-Series aircraft. The ruling overturns a decision to impose tariffs on imports of the jet whose wings are manufactured inNorthern Ireland which forms such a key part of the local supply chain. Welcoming this development, North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne added;

"I very much welcome this development for Bombardier and Northern Ireland and I trust this news will help to safeguard the C Series programme for the future of Bombardier in Northern Ireland. This news is vital for for the firm’s 4,000 workers in Northern Ireland and the many more who form part of the supply chain here including locally within this Borough.  This has been a very difficult time for those staff who faced such an uncertain future. Right from the outset management have worked tirelessly to secure the best possible outcome and I would like to pay tribute to all who led on this campaign to help protect these key jobs for the future.

Bombardier is a very important employer locally with many from across North Down in secure employment at Bombardier and through the aerospace supply chain across Northern Ireland. This has been an example of Northern Ireland leading the way in engineering and manufacturing and something we must continue to build upon as we seek to grow and develop our economy. Having visited Bombardier a number of times in recent years during my time as a member of the Enterprise Committee and seeing the C Series up close it is certainly a very impressive piece of manufacturing, with the design and construction of the composite wings built and designed in Belfast.
