North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has praised the success of the Northern Ireland Armed Forces Day held this year in Bangor over the weekend. Mr Dunne added:

'The Armed Forces Day which was this year held in Bangor was a real success and was a very fitting tribute to the bravery and dedication of our Armed Forces. It was great to see so many lining the streets of Bangor throughout the weekend as they saluted our service personnel both those currently serving and military veterans over the many festivities and celebrations.

It was estimated that over 45,000 people visited the event over the weekend and this shows the level of support and admiration for our Armed Forces. The event was very well organised which also coincided with the Sea Bangor Festival, and included a parade through the town centre, a drumhead service and a beating retreat display.

This was a real opportunity for people from right across Northern Ireland to say thank you to our Armed Forces, and the huge crowds in attendance demonstrated the utmost respect which people have for our Armed Forces and it also confirmed once again that Bangor and North Down is a top venue for large public events, and we must be positive as we try and bring further regeneration to Bangor Town Centre with the redevelopment of Queen's Parade being a top priority.'
