North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has attended an event at Stormont to mark the European Day for Victims of Terrorism on Monday 13th March at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

‘I was honoured to be able to attend an event at Stormont to mark the European Day for Victims of Terrorism. The event was an opportunity to hear first-hand some harrowing personal stories from real victims of terrorism here in Northern Ireland and beyond. It was an important event to mark what is now a dedicated day by the European Union to have a specific day to remember victims of terrorism in March every year. This was an important opportunity for many innocent victims of terrorism to tell their story, and highlight some of the problems and fears which they still have to live with on a daily basis.

I counted it as an honour to have met some of the victims present at the event, and I trust that they all found it a useful opportunity to reflect and remember something that is often very personal and horrific. The courage displayed by those in attendance at the event in trying to rebuild their lives despite their troubled setbacks was an inspiration to us all. It is important that we never forget those innocent victims of our troubled past as we try and move this country forward into the future. On this special day, set aside across Europe for victims of terrorism, we should join and support all innocent victims in their campaign for justice.’
